If putting things off keeps getting in your way
Source · Steel P. Arousal, avoidant and decisional procrastinators: Do they exist? Pers Individ Dif. 2010;48(8):926–934. Find where you get stuck
The Pure Procrastination Scale (PPS) uses 12 items to explore a tendency to delay things more than necessary. Its items were selected from three earlier procrastination scales. This page uses an English translation of the CareOps Korean version and asks how well each statement describes you as you usually are.
Reading your results
The screen shows a total (12–60) alongside three areas: delaying decisions, delaying action and missing deadlines. With the same total, being unable to decide and deciding but not starting point to different things to look at. The lower, moderate and higher ranges divide the possible scores into thirds; they are CareOps descriptions, not thresholds set by the original scale.
A question to reflect on
Think of one thing you are putting off now. Have you not decided what to do, decided but not started, or started but only move when the deadline is close? Choose where you are stuck, then write one first action you could finish within five minutes.
Frequently asked questions
- How many questions are in the PPS procrastination check, and how long does it take?
- There are 12 questions, and it usually takes about 2 minutes. For each question you choose one of 5 answers, from “Not at all like me” to “Very much like me”. There are no right or wrong answers.
- What are the three areas?
- The results show delaying decisions, delaying action and missing deadlines separately. With the same total, being unable to decide and deciding but not starting point to different things to look at.
- How are the lower, moderate and higher ranges set?
- They divide the possible total (12–60) into thirds and are CareOps descriptions, not thresholds set by the original scale. Which area is highest, and the situations where you actually delay, tell you more than the range name.
- What if I think perfectionism is why I procrastinate?
- High standards can make starting feel heavy. The SAPS perfectionism check separates high standards from feeling that you fall short, which helps you judge whether the standards are behind the delay or something else is.
- Do I need to sign in? Are my answers saved?
- You can see your results right away without signing in. Your answers are used only for scoring and are not stored on our servers.
- Can I bring these results into a counseling session?
- Use the analysis button at the bottom of the result screen to have a short conversation with Maeumi without signing in. After the conversation, you can continue in the app. The web conversation does not transfer automatically to the app.
- Can I share my results with a friend?
- Yes. Use Share at the top right of the result screen to send a friend the check itself, or share your result as a link or story image. A result link carries your scores inside the address only; it does not include your name or account, and nothing is saved on our side.
