CBI · Personal and work exhaustion
If everyday life or work has been leaving you exhausted
Source · Kristensen TS, Borritz M, Villadsen E, Christensen KB. The Copenhagen Burnout Inventory. Work Stress. 2005;19(3):192–207. CareOps English translation of its existing Korean questionnaire. Wording, response choices and descriptive score ranges follow the CareOps version and have not been independently validated in English. CareOps uses 13 selected personal/work items with its existing frequency responses and combined sum. It does not administer the client-related scale or report the original CBI's separate 0–100 means. The combined ranges are CareOps summaries, not validated CBI cutoffs.
Understanding this CBI-based burnout check
The CBI distinguishes personal, work-related and client-related exhaustion. This page uses six personal and seven work-related items; it does not include the six client-related items.
Reading your results
Read personal and work-related exhaustion together. This English questionnaire translates the CareOps version. Its combined score and descriptive ranges are CareOps summaries, not the original separate 0–100 means or diagnostic thresholds. Describe what has been exhausting alongside your score.
A question to reflect on
Choose one recent moment when you felt drained. What was happening? Did rest change how you felt? Which workload, deadline or responsibility would you like to discuss or adjust?
Frequently asked questions
- How many questions are in the CBI burnout check, and how long does it take?
- There are 13 questions, and it usually takes about 3 minutes. For each question you choose one of 5 answers, from “Never or almost never” to “Always”. There are no right or wrong answers.
- How do personal and work-related exhaustion differ?
- Personal exhaustion asks how drained you feel in body and mind regardless of work. Work-related exhaustion asks how much you feel worn out because of your work. Looking at them separately helps you judge whether tiredness comes mainly from work or has spread across your life.
- Why is exhaustion from working with clients not included?
- The original CBI has a separate set of six items about work with clients or patients. This page uses only the six personal and seven work-related items, so exhaustion that comes from working with people is not part of the result.
- What can I do first if my score is high?
- Note which tasks drain you most and whether rest makes a difference. Choosing one thing you could adjust, such as workload, a deadline or a responsibility, is a useful starting point. If the exhaustion lasts for several weeks and affects your sleep, eating or daily life, talk it through with a counselor or clinician.
- Do I need to sign in? Are my answers saved?
- You can see your results right away without signing in. Your answers are used only for scoring and are not stored on our servers.
- Can I bring these results into a counseling session?
- If you sign up or sign in from this browser within 24 hours of finishing, using the button below your results, the results you just saw move into your own records. Maeumi, CareOps’ AI companion, takes them into account in your first conversation.
- Can I share my results with a friend?
- Yes. Below your results you can send a friend the check itself, or share your result as a link or story image. A result link carries your scores inside the address only; it does not include your name or account, and nothing is saved on our side.
